Aaron Frater is a carver, and sculptor of 3D objects. He has exhibited for nearly 30 years, having been part of group and solo shows in New Zealand, Japan, the US, and Australia. He has works in private residences and community spaces around New Zealand, and lives and works in Wellington.
His latest series of work, 'Urban Renewal Safety Procedure Zone' utilises plastic mesh as the main material – making symbolic, sign-like sculptures. This 2019 mixed-media installation, in the form of a house, is a collectable and unique piece of New Zealand art.
“The meshing of open weave, has virtually no substance, but its colour and its connotations are powerful and unmistakable.”
